Yeah, but the netgear one is only 2.4GHz 'N'.

To achieve 300mbps in the 2.4 band, you have to bond 2 channels together, from 1 6 and 11.

If you live in flat, the chances are that you can see another 10/15 networks on these channels.

As WiFi is a shared half duplex medium, you're throughput will be absolutely awful.

You need to move to 5GHz. Let me know if you need more info. It's my job!

Any wireless router that uses 5GHz radios.

You'd have to make sure your laptop and PCs support 5GHz channels, but the majority of them do. Let me know what wireless card you have and I'll let you know for sure.

In terms of specific router models, check these out.

D-Link do a few also...

If you need a wireless card for PC/Laptop, let me know and I'll give back some recommendations.

Here's why... (I'm waiting for a flight and have time to waste!)

If you search for wireless networks within range of your laptop, all of those networks will be on either channel 1, 6 or 11 (or at least should be!). Your network should also be on one of those channels. Although you only have possible 2/3 computers on your network, each other person on the same channel is also sharing that air-time.

I can go into great detail on it if people are interested to know how it works? I got some time to ware before a flight back to Heathrow!

I can select any channel between 1 - 13, or is that just too simple?

They overlap or summing. So 1 6 or 11 is best

Yeah. In the UK, we can use 1 to 13, and its 1 to 11 in the US. It's completely pointless though becuase 11 and 13 overlap anyway, so it's pretty much the same. There are some useful bits and pieces on the web...

The only slight difference for the Japs is that they can use channel 14, so they can almost squeeze 4 channels out of the band...

The best thing is to move to 5GHz because in the UK there are 8 non overlapping unrestricted channels to use. If you are using wireless n, you need to use two of these. If you router supports it, you can also use channels 36 to 140, as long as your access point is not within range of any radar signals on the same channel.

The US can also use from 149 to 165, but this is not allowed in the UK.

The frequencies that those channels run on are probably allocated to some other use here.
