What metal is the best to use welding up the lock on the boot? I have fillered it but it failed, so now I will weld it.

But is normal steel okay to use? Where can I get it? How much is it? And what type of welder should I use, my dad has one I can use, but I don't know what type it is.

Cheers

Also, how thick or thin should the metal be?
and I take it you can use a normal angle grinder to cut the metal into the shape?

np couple of mil thick will be fine use tin snips to get to shape tack in place then spread the weld load or you will distort the boot...

as in tack it at opposite sides and work your way around rather than starting 12 and finishing at 12
