Picking up tomoz - spoke with insurance and gave them plate of new car. They said change is in place for early hours of sat morning and have told me what new monthly payments are. Whats the score if I get pulled before the new docs arrive?

Bare in mind it may not be instant.

Get them to email you something if possible and keep that with you is probably the easiest thing. Worse you'll get is a producer.

The police have stopped issuing producers. If they believe your car is uninsured (not on the police database) they will just take the car.

If that happend, say because the Police national computer/insurance company hadnt updated in time and they take the car, what would happen? Compensation for being stranded? Free release of the car?

The police havn't done anything wrong, as it's down to individual insurers to put it on the system, so no compensation. When it happened to me, my insurer hadn't put it on the database, so I got the recovery and storage fee's refunded by my insurer.

To sum it up, it may take a while to come up on the database, but providing they can get hold of the insurance company if they stop you, if insurers say yay your prob get a producer (They DO still use them!) and be on your merry way.
