Right so money is tight, and I can't afford to run my little 1997 Clio. So me and my Mother had the idea that if I sell my car and keep the money, she will put me on her insurance on her 57 plate Fiesta.

I know at this point you're probably thinking "What a stupid question, just do it!" but the fact is she works 8am - 8pm.. and sometimes I would need the car in between those hours.

So what do I do?

Keep my car and save up to get it back on the road or just cut my losses, sell up and go on the Fiesta?

(That probably makes no sense at all as my mind is elsewhere..)

Get on your mums insurance, take her to work and pick her up? That way you have the car if you ever needed it.

^ You have a point. Don't know if she'd approve, but I suppose I am paying £800 of insurance and she's paying £100. Plus I'll be the one doing things to it, detailing it and keeping it filled up like requested.

How much extra is it going to save you (money wise) by going on your mums insurance and selling your car?

If you're paying £800 for insurance, petrol costs, etc, it can't be saving you a whole lot?

Clio needs MOT & tax, insurance is £1600 for myself. Plus there's all fuels costs anyway.. So it's saving quite a bit.

£1600!? I'd be looking at a 1l 12v or 1.2 16v if you're not going to go on your mums policy.

id sell it and buy a cheaper car, or get it through the mot then sell it (obviously if the repairs arent much)
and buy a cheaper car, could not do without a car, not even sharing it, there will always be a time you both need it and it would just be a pain in the arse

as above i would sell the clio then buy some cheap old run around like a 1.2 corsa or 1.1 205 or some thing not stlish but its your own and still build no clams up so motering will get cheaper in the end.

also old cars rock as you don't have to worry about dents or scratchs form other people

As above, I was in your situation (albeit without a car) when deciding what to do, own car or go on my mums policy.

If you get another car, have you considered doing it in your mum/dads name (although it's fronting), to bring the price down a bit?

Daymoon.. a little thing called paying attention was created for a reason.

"but work is very low and has been since before Christmas."

Job #1 - Under minimum wage & less than 12 hours a week

Job #2 - Only weekend work on the doors, but decent pay which pays for board and club

Job #3 - Will kick in with better weather.

Koko's bro.

Car's for sale now anyway, not arsed what I get for it. Could use some exercise from walking if I'm honest.
