right its catching on the safety latch on the lock. 2 ways to solve this are to either fit a spring to the tailgate to push and help the boot move past the safety latch

or you could grind the latch off so the lock will shut fine no problem and open without catching the second safety latch.

best thing you could of done is go to local scrapyard mate.
I spoke to a guy who helped wire mine up and he said if you solder the relay for the rear wiper so that its not intermittent then it would solve the propblem of the safety latch. dunno how true it is although i should be able to shed some light by next week as im trying to do mine tomorrow.

i have my solenoid wired straight to a live and earthed to the bootlid, on a flick switch so with a sprung loaded thign in the boot shut it would be perfect, went scrappy today and couldnt find nothing suitable at all...need a new boot lock now(n) perhaps danny could go in to more detail about that safety l;atch idea so i can try again
cheers

dont cut the first one as thats the main lock mech to keep the boot shut, its the second latch you need to grind down

Try some Alfa Romeo GT boot bump stops, they have a springy center to push the boot off the catch
