What happens if you missing a connecting flight due to a delay with the first flight if the flights are with different airlines and the flights were booked completely independently of each other.

There's a 6 hour gap between the first flight landing and the 2nd departing but you never know what could happen. The 2nd flight is worth around £800 so I'm curious who is liable and what will happen.

If you have them on the same booking/ticket/PNR then even if the first one is late and you miss the second flight, they are still responsible for getting you to your destination.

If you book them seperately then the second airline will just think that you didn't turn up and that you aren't going. They don't have to do anything but they may be nice and transfer your booking to the next flight if space available.
