Im looking. Swindon used to have documentation on their website but its no longer there.

Current BTCC cars on restrictors are running about 270-290, its well known most of the field in the factory days were running over 300bhp.

I'll try to find something about it.

I've also seen an XE running (IIRC 305degree cams???) and twin 48 carbs make 305bhp on a dyno (it was actually in a Mk2 Escort shell), but you know what dynos are like.

But a quick check on SBD..

http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Taper%20Kits/New%202.0L%20Taper%20Kits/2.0L%20TP%20kits%206th%20upgrade/2.0L%20TP%20kit%206th%20upgrade.htm

Now think of a 290bhp engine, with a complete works financial package behined it.

.....

Hmmm just found a tech spec..
ENGINE: Vauxhall 16V engine developed by Swindon Racing
Engines
Reverse head 4 cylinder 1998 cc unit develops
290 BHP
The RML Cavalier accelerates from 0-60 mph in
under 4 seconds
The engine has a statutory rev limiter set at
8,500 rpm

So it seems that after all this time of thinking the XE's were making over 300, it seems they in fact, were not So Nic it seems your correct, all gossip, no hard facts. This I can admit as im all man

TBH i recon a 106 gti would do it on the bends and a XE'd corsa would rasp it along the straights!
