Not a corsa but a Pug 206
When driving there is a whining noise thats get higher and lower as the revs get higher and lower. When i say whining it kind of sounds like something is catching on something that is turning(almost like a super charger whine!).
Also when you come off the throttle and let the car engine brake there is a knocking sound like metal cogs clashing together!
The noise is not apparent at all when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor either
And the last thing is when you reverse it there is a really bad vibration that feels like something is loose and metal is banging together!
Cheers

Gearbox has been run dry of oil. Bearings are fucked causing the whine. Sounds like the main shaft is fucked if it clunks.
New box time.

drained the oil today (around 1.5lt came out) and refilled it, still making the whine but ive noticed the drivers inner cv boot is split and has no bearing grease in the joint. Reckon its this?

Could be the joint. Change it anyway.
The oil/bearings inside will be too far gone to just fix by a oil change. Really not worth rebuilding the gearbox eather.
