I getting rid of the Golf this weekend, and my plan is to go for a BMW 328i sport.

Seem quite readily available, and ALOT of car for the money.

I am aware of the pre 98 engines etc and the balljoint/lower arm issues.

Any other useful info would be greatly appreciated!

got the e46 330ci, its replacement if you like.

know a few people who had 328 sports, great solid fast cars but no m3.

engine can be tweaked to around 240bhp for not much money thanks to german laws at the time restricting the engine

Do you know how to tell if the engine block has been changed?

Also if the car has ASC and you are putting on an M50 manifold and BBTB you need a bigger ASC throttle body or get rid of it all together for more bhp.

Check the back arches for rust, and the rear subframe mounts can get ripped out so just listen for clunks and stuff. Eats balljoints but hey ho, not much you can do and they are cheap.

Rear Trailing Arm bushes are something to listen for (clunks again) and are a pig to do. I get a specialist to do them. Engines are solid and sounds fantastic

Solid cars, love the E36. I've got a pre Vanos 325i, rolling roaded at 200bhp.
