Why is the ECU suggested?

What corsa is it? (year, model, engine etc.)

Just about every corsa has got a factory immoboliser which consists of a chip in the key which is read by a unit on the ignition barrel, if you replace the ECU you MUST, MUST, MUST get the chip and reader from the barrel that goes with it.

fair enough, what Daveylc said you must get ecu and chip to match it.
