Well I've had a right fiasco with my new V5C for the Punto. In short it had a private plate so all got a bit messy.

But 3 weeks in to ownership I hadn't received the V5C - the DVLA says to wait 20 working days HOWEVER they should be able to see it on the system within 3 weeks. So advised send the new keeper supplement along with V62 form. The new keeper supplement saves paying £25. So I sent it recorded delivery. I also let the garage know there had been a fuck up.

In the post today came a letter from the DVLA asking for £25 to go along with the V62 that the car garage had also sent.

I phoned up the DVLA to just double check what I should do and would you believe it, no record of my new keeper supplement despite it getting there on Tuesday, signed for.

The Welsh lady then asked for the tracking number, and she confirmed it had been signed for, but not put through the system, therefore no need to send £25.

Moral of the story: Send anything to the DVLA recorded delivery - before it's on their system they can check it has been received and saves a lot of hassle & worry, plus you have proof if they fuck up.

Never sent anything Recorded Delivery to them, never had any problems, so would have cost me more in the long run by doing so, IMO.

EDIT: It's not actually IMO cause it's not my opinion, it's fact

I sent something today to them and made sure it was recored. I dont want a fine for a car that I scrapped over a year ago because the scrap yard are too fucking lazy to put it through the system.

I cant comprehend why you wouldnt send it recorded in the first place!

The DVLA deal with thousands of letters a day, its easy for them to go walkabouts!

If you have proof that they signed for it they havent got a leg to stand on!

With the greatest respect, recorded delivery costs £1 more. £1 versus losing a New Keep slip and paying £25 is no contest

I know. But the point I'm making is they can also track it and confirm it has been received, before it's showing on their system as 'processing'.

Do you send of all your logbooks and stuff by recorded then? If I was at the Post Office I'd probably pay the extra £1 but I just do it at the Post box

I sent my old V5 off with a first class stamp in an envelope that didn't stick down very well and put it in a post box. Got the letter today saying I am no longer the owner. Lovely jubbly

Not saying you shouldn't send it recorded though, if I was in your situation then I would have done.
