looked into it but people are sponsoring you to do the jump and donate to charity... not pay for the jump aswell.

when we done it we actually paid for the jump and all the sponsorship money went to the charities we choose.

My thoughts also. Almost seems like a scam

I did one about 18 months ago at Skyline http://www.skylineparachuting.co.uk/

Just up the M40 from you. You have to raise a decent amount as they charge a few hundred for the jump. I paid it out my own pocket as I thought it takes the piss a bit if you raise 300 for charity and the skydiving place takes £280 of it.

I've done one which was organised through a previous employers partner charity. You raised anything over £250 (iirc) which paid for your jump and whatever left over went to charity. I got £30 sponsorship and just paid the rest by myself

Good half pint.

I've got a mate who wanted to do a parachute jump, and at a different time a bungee jump, "for charity"

Basically if he raised x amount from people he got the jumps for cheap/free. This really pissed me off, parading round like he's doing stuff for charity when he just wants a free jump.

He also wanted to do the NY Marathon for a similar deal, was a couple of hundred quid instead of £500+

He's now running the Manchester 10km for Christies, which I can't argue with as it's a free event and if he raises money for that I don't mind.

A friend of mine started to organise something like this for a group of us. But it turned out that they would have been paying for it out of the sponsorship money. A lot of us pulled out because of that.

these wind me up to be honest...

'Hey, I've decided to do a bungee jump / sky dive - for charity!... If you'd like to sponser me to do this scary thing, pay here...'

winds me up... Bungee Jump / Sky Dive is a 'fun activity'...

Charity activities should = painful / hard work... e.g. Marathon... crawling on your belly for 26 miles.

It's even worse when the charity money covers the cost of the activity! You're getting something fun on the good will of others.

*grumble grumble*

I also don't understand doing a parachute jump for charity as it's a fun thing to do.

And making people pay for it too, it's a stupid idea.

It's one of the most exciting things I have ever done so I don't see it as being scary tbh. And it's probably one of the safest sports around, as crazy as it sounds.

I think Paul's picking up on what seems to be a trend of people doing it when they're not scared of it.
Personally I don't give money to "sponsered" people.. if I feel like donating to charity, I do it in my own way and when it's suitable to me.. I seem to always get asked around the time when I'm paying out for other things and have little left to give.

Charity starts at home kids

That's exactly it... It and doing a 134m bungee in a valley are one of my top 2 cool things i've done in my life... and I didn't 'do it for charity' ... I just saved up my money and did it.

then people come along saying they're gonna do some pansy 5km sky dive (like no air time) and i'm supposed to pay them some money... get a grip.

my sky dive was high enough to require oxygen masks and the bloke let me control the parachute doing spins and corkscrews on the way down... mad fucking new zealanders.

To be honest, the thought going through my mind wasn't 'oh shit I hope this shoot opens soon' ... it was 'fuck it's cold up here' and 'shit I'm struggling to breathe'.

As soon as that chute pulled I could breathe again...

.....

....

...

..

.

But the sky dive was tame compared to the bungee jump... just saying.

Prob because you have to hurl yourself off on a bungee, and you get a rush from seeing the ground approaching fast when you jump off

here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNveyNGts6I

she did it in the end

worst part is getting to the edge... and having to force yourself to jump... your legs turn to jelly and you can't move them.
