As good as my 1.2 8v has been to me after nearly 2 years ive decided to get a quicker car. Love my corsa ticks most boxes for me really and i think you get a lot of value for money so im just going to get a newer quicker corsa. Looking at 1.6 sports just wanted to no some general information about them how reliable they are and also what the MPG is like. Not really impressed with the MPG on my 1.2 but a heavy foot is needed tbh just to keep pace.
So what are things to look out for when buying one and what they are like to deal with day to day financially and to live with.
thanks

Whittie done a 0-60 is my old one and it took around 8.5 secs. Its on youtube. I put acouple of bits on and it didnt make it much faster.
Anyway just make sure its been seviced, cambelt etc. I had nothing go wrong with mine. Only broke when i started modifying bits but even then it was niggly bits, nothing major.

The 1.6's are a lot higher insurance group than the 1.4's considering they are not a huge deal quicker (group 6 and 11)
My 1.4 had 4 branch, full exhaust sytem, stripped out inlet manifold and induction kit and beat a couple of 1.6's to 80mph anyway. Probably best to buy a 1.6 instaed od doing all that crap though.
Also should come with a good few more lixuries than your 1.2. Surprised you had bad economy with it though, my 1.2 8v was great.

Yeah i meen power steering is total luxury for me even tho i have an LS so i have a glove box
I wanted a newer more modern car and somehow ended up with a mk2 fiesta as well
I was looking at 1.4 just dont want to get it and wish i had got the 1.6.

i had a 1.6sport for my first car, had it for about a year and a half and was a great car just the odd wee problem nothing major and it got abused so would say they are pretty reliable. MPG was orite i thought will also feel loads faster than your 1.2. 1.4 sports are nearly as quick up to about 70 but do struggle top end but if your not bothered about top end speed then it doesnt really matter. ggod car tho IMO.

Ah cool. Is the tax much more for a 1.6 then a 1.4?

As per any pre 2000 car that is over 1550CC its around £200, 1.4 would be just £120, same as your 1.2.
As for MPG, I get 30ish MPG in my Tigra (Same engine as corsa, totaly standard other than a lead foot), Cambelt should have been changed around 70k iirc, Mine snapped at 78k iirc.
Other thing as per any older vauxhall is Rust! Check everywhere.
If the Sport has Aircon make sure it works, if it dont, get money off the asking price, could be a costly pump or wiring fault.
