yeah they can side track the well no problem
i aint even going to get into this, as i will bore you`s with all my shite (this is my job, subsea well control)
pumping the oil based mud down to bullhead the well should work, as long as they can pump at such a rate to over come the well pressure and thus bullheading the well.....

They need that boy Red Adair, he was good at plugging breached wells/reserviors, he did the Alpha back in '88. Pity he kicked the bucket though...
Edit: actually he was only any use for the fires :doyle:

Guy who does the training courses at work has worked with him before. He's showed me photos hes taken from massive blow outs in Russia and all over the world, scary!
Apparently the BOP's are only partially closed, and if they were fully open the rate of oil coming out would be alot worse
Now at work, when pressure testing BOP's we also have to record the time taken for the rams to close, this is just since this happening and also at BP's request
Apparently one of the drillers pulled the string through when the BOP was being tested, well so I heard anyway.
I heard it was a Cooper Cameron BOP as well, I guess it doesn't matter who reburbished it last really, Transocean/BP should of acted long before it even happened.

CBS 60 Minutes did a programme about it a week or so ago (16/05/2010 episode), it's worth watching!
Edit - It's on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0onXmlFgF8I

Really REALLY makes me angry.
F**k the cost, and human effect. Look at that coastline and animals.
Humans, yet again, f**king up the planet for everything thus proving that the human race is still a virus on this planet

It's the risk we must take to live the lives we lead, but I agree because it was so easily avoidable. Lessons have been learned in the North Sea, mind you nae cnut is drilling much these days. Seems like the Americans still have a lot to learn.

I work for BP Oils UK, pretty bad thing to happen, devistating actually. The fines/payouts etc by BP are all covered under their insurance/assurance policy, so this incident specifically wont affect fuel prices. I wonder how the media would portray this though?
The more likely cause for a massive fuel hike is Obama's plan to freeze all deep sea mining in the Alaska/Antartic regions and the Gulf as a whole...
