Going to a club tonight where my gf's dad is playing on stage in his band, said id try and get some good photos of them but was just wondering what settings are best to use as I havent really shot mnay low light photos yet.

Also dont really want to keep blinding them with the flash while I figure out whats best.

Any advice would be great

Cheers

Set your apature to the lowest (f/1.4 or f/1.8 - depending on the lens), your ISO to as high as it'll go (either 1600 or 3200 [also labelled "h" on some cameras]). Now, as long as your subject isn't moving too much and you don't have the shakes, you should be able to get away with a shutter speed as low as 1/60.

Bear in mind it'll only be F3.5 on the lowest focal length so 18mm. Fully zoomed in at F5.6 it'll be something like F5.6.

Basically set a high aperture and you should be alright, if your lens or camera has vibration reduction then use that too. You should be able to adjust the strength of the flash, so you could try setting it to the lowest if it's too dark without and go from there.

Also remember that the higher the ISO is set, the grainier the image will come out.

True, but don't be scared to whack the ISO higher & higher, you have a photoshop tool to remove grains. Otherwise your pics are going to be terribly dark.
