Why have I never heard of these?

Apparently they were pretty big in Japan, and even in North America, but were pretty obscure in Europe.

They were about in the mid to late 80's

They were basically a 12" CD that were sold with films etc on them

Ex girlfriends dad had a laser disk player. Draw loading though.not like that photo. The tray that came out was huge lol pic quality was ok. Nothing special, but better than vhs. He said it was the best thing ever.....then dvd came along! He was a bit pissed off LOL.

Laserdiscs used to be huge! Because of the price it never took off.

I remember being in hi-fi store in Leeds and they had the Laser Disc room, Star Wars was playing

If I win the lottery, I'm having a laser disc player in my cinema room

Shame you had to flip them over

Yes I have a pioneer laser disc at home, I have around 100 Lasers - films and music same as DVD. Americans used to have AC3 (dolby digital) but english only had solby surround
