Once he signed that log book, he agreed to the car being sold in a worthy condition for himself. What happens after, its his car. Tell him to do one.

It's a second hand car. Pot luck... If i bought private over 3 years old i'd know i didn't have a leg to stand on and in fairness, wouldn't even be so cheeky to ask. WANKER

i already have, he said he bought it modded. i text him today saying i will help him to source a cheap gearbox, but buying it and fitting is his responsability, i feel im being more than help full. the vectra was on 75k ffs, not exactly a new car, he test drove it and every thing with no problems

Be careful even helping him find bits, it might indicate to him that you are taking some responsibility for it.

Guy I sold my Land Rover did that to me, I text back asking why he was telling me about his car.

spot on, dont even help source a gearbox for him, could implicate you in a sense that you knew the gearbox was on its way. Just be firm and tell him sold as seen, but be polite.

The buyer has to be able to prove you knew the car had problems, which is nigh on impossible, so any threats of trading standards, solicitors take with a pinch of salt
