i have a Laptop which does not boot (blue screen) is there any way i can recover the content without booting into windows??

I know i can buy a external hard disk caddy, but didnt know whether i could recover the files onto a usb stick

Boot off a Ubuntu CD and you might be able to recover some of the files

try ubuntu like Rob says

if that doesn't work then use a SATA/IDE-to-usb converter cable.
