Been asked to take some pics at a gig tonight. I've borrowed a flash for my D40 for this one as the built in flash is ghey. Any tips for taking pics in a dark environment? I'm just doing this for a mate and I've warned them I'm a beginner

If you can avoid aiming the flash direct at people they'll look a bit more natural, less 'frozen'.
Try aiming it at the ceiling or a wall or something.

if possible...
wack the iso up as high as it will go without giving out uttershite (depends how dark it is aswell though tbh),
flash in rearsnych mode (and not directly on the person),
bout half a second exposure or more than likely quicker.
wide open apeture.

Id use the flash gun but turn down the exposure, use the camera on time value and make a second or two shutter speed for some light trails and keep the iso around 400

I took about 60 shots. There was about 1 good one
Learned a bit though
