Ok guys I have been bitten by the camera bug
Currently have aa Sony A380 and whant to upgrade after my recent Route 66 trip
What would you guys suggest

not sure - I have seen an a550 which takes my fancy
But thinking of the canon eos 500d or nikon 3000

Presumably you mean D300 as the D3000 is an entry level model.

Sony a550 has same resultion as my a380 but but better sensor and comes with a twin lens kit
Canon seems to get good reviews and has slightly higher pixels
But nikon get good reviews too

D90 is an excellent choice.
I cannot comment on the Sony's, but they're very underestimated, that i do know. Lens choice aren't as vast as the Nikon's though.
I'm a nikon fan, had a D50 / D60 / D80 / D300 and now about to buy a D300s.

out of my league that one but fair play
Going towards the Sony at the moment as the a380 has been very good but most people seem to use Nikon or Canon - with canon not sure whether the EOS 500 or 550 is the better buy

I'm going to trade in my D80 for D90 when prices drop a tad. It looks excellent.
If I was you i'd either go for a Nikon or Canon, every canon user seems to be happy with their camera, and visa versa with Nikon.
Vast lens collections on both makes, and there's always some cash back deals on.

Ive had a play with alot of camera's and ive got to say i prefer the layouts and user friendliness of nikons and the sheer amount of lens's available for them

Every time I look at lenses to see what's available, there are things for Nikon I would never have thought of They really do have a massive choice.
I'm also a fan of the Nikon menu system, it's pretty easy to use after you play with the buttons a bit.

i was looking at a 550 as an upgrade over my a200 recently, i've grown quite fond of my sony but that doesn't mean i wouldn't change to canon or nikon. the other thing to take into account is i have afew other lenses for the sony but again, these can be sold on
the 550 is probably the one to go for though, in the current range the jump from the 550 is the 850 which is £1500 more expensive
