I have a 328i coupe which is fantastic and punches well above its weight. I must say as big a fan as I am of the M3's I've been disappointed by the two Evo's I've driven and I'm not alone. My good friend was looking to purchase one and test drove a number of them and they all felt flat. The M3 is also a much more tiring car to drive than the lazy 328.
I'd definately recommend a drive before making any decisions.

Cheers for all the helpful info people

I really need to drive one to see what I think but there isn't any locally so may just have to hold out until one pops up closer to home.

theres nothing wrong with non evo models in terms of reliabity the 3.0 m3 is a much better unit very rarely do you get vanos problems, ive got 2 3.0 m3s at work one is a daily drive and the other is a track car, both are putting out 300bhp theres hardly anything init between the non evo and evo!
In experiance ive had nothing but problems with the 3.2 evo! ive got a 200k mile 3.0 M3 putting out 300bhp never missed a beat or let me down! regular servicing and you cant go wrong!
