Does the starter motor on an xe keep it running or is it just used to start the car?

Having problems startin and keeping the car running!

as what its called Starter motor, its starts the car nothing else.

Yup, the starter gear 'pings' out to the flywheel, then spins, then as soon as you realise the key, the starter gear will go back to rest. All starters, on all cars do it the same way

If it were to spin all of the time, it would cause premature wear on the starter motor

It would more than likely burn out or cause a fire which has been known to happen when a starter sticks.
