Im looking at getting a student current account for when I start uni next month, but have no idea how much Im gonna spend!

My parents have paid for my accomodation, so will have 4300ish to spend over the year, this also includes running my car (although that will only be shopping runs, meets and going home)

How much did others spend a year, including running a car?

Yea as said your not going to survive on 4300 over a year I would suggest looking for some part time work to top up your income if anything!

Theres a reason most students looks like hippies

considering your parents are paying for your accomadation then you could easily live off your loan no problems.

the question isnt how much will you need to spend but how much you want to, if you plan well and live to your meens you wont need a part time job, then again if you go out drinking everynight and act a retard like most student you will burn through it.

dont forget most peoples loan of £3800 or whatever it is mostly goes on accomodation, or the better part of £2900+ usually do, no reason you cant live off £4000 easily.

You could easily live off your loan if you didn't have your car, look for part time work as mentioned though - or work like a dog during the holidays/breaks if you can find a job.

Term time for me ran October to roughly May time then just the occasional exam.

Natwest offer student accounts, interest free overdraft for 2 years after graduation and up to £1,500. £500 in first time, £1000 in second and £1,500 in the final.

edit; Actually you could probably live off your loan and run the car at the same time - I spent most of my loan on shit as I carried on working part time.

Try not to get a massive overdraft. It's hard work getting out if it!

You will most probably be fine. Depends on your insurance cost per month though and how much diesel you use each week. For example I only have 300 quid to live on from september till January, 'cos i'm paying rent.

If it's your first year, you WILL be going out each night and getting ruined. Here's a tip for saving you money... 3 litres of Frosty Jack's before you go out will see you through the night.

My ex lived off her loans for the dirt year and as far as I'm aware the second as well, she paid her own accommodation out of it too, think her parents gave her the odd hundred quid here and there though
