My Dad has a midlife crisis every 2-3 years, after bigger and biger superbikes, a spell track racing, back on trials bikes, Bee Keeping and a greenhouse, this is his latest; him and a mate started keeping a couple of pigs 2 years ago on some land they bough in our village - approximately 30acres.

They started with Pigs, bought a tractor with every imaginable accessory; fence post drivers, drill attatchments etc. etc. They've put a barn in, converted an old stone barn as well and well it grew; they now have:
- 14 Duroc Pigs including 2 breeding Sows which produce 10-12 piglets a year each, half are sold as soon as they are old enough to leave the Sow to a local big farm Pig producer and the other half are kept back for meat, half of those slaughtered at 6months and the other half at 8-10months. They live off the land with a supplemented diet mainly in winter. They're as close to organic as you'll get and live on grassland and in the woods. They produce their own sausages and bacon and retail from the converted barn "Farm Shop" - don't really make any moeny but they cover their costs at least.
- 6 Jacobs Sheep, kept to keep the grass down and for wool yield
- 6 Longhorn Cattle, kept to keep the grass down
- 30 Chickens
- 6 Bantams
- 6 Geese
and the aforemention Bee hives.

Dad in one of the 5 stys

Latest lot of Piglets

Polly one of the Breeding Sows; the other is called Bramley

and they become this; Serious Business, Dad's got his glasses on..........

Nah, you've got me all wrong.
If your dad and his mate were playing football with one of the live pigs I'd probably hate it.

He's got so many "projects" on the go that we just refer to each new one as the latest midlife crisis..........

Not sure on mail order sausages; they're only making so much and it all gets sold locally tbh. The Bacon is the best thing though
