Tbh you would be better with a number 3 in rope with 3 knots in it and then the word beside it

They're named after a pier in Stonehaven which advises a 3 knots speed limit for boats, so nothing to do with knots in rope.

Appreciate the input though.

Knots in rope is were the term comes from so it has everything to do with that

Exactly! Knots were tied in a length of rope every 40ft or so and then thrown out the back of the ship attached to a lump of wood. The speed was the number of knots passing through your hand within 30 seconds, which roughly works out about 1.5mph per knot.
