The box can be removed on it's own but because of where I was working on it I thought it's just as easy to remove the whole thing and make it easier to get the box off, f28's seems to weigh 10x that of a f20,f16 etc tbh it was probably quicker lol.
And ghetto engine removal is the best, there's more satisfaction removing an engine with jacks, bricks, blocks of wood and spare tyres lol.

Long overdue update!
Just a quick post to let you all know I've still got my corsa and plan to get it on the road again in the next few weeks
When I get chance I'll try to carry on this thread where I left off as I've still got loads of pictures of work done since my last post.

Right! finally recovered my profile so update time.
I know i said last october i was going to carry on with this thread (after not updating it for over a year before that lol) but i didnt really have time to do so, so this is just another quick update to let you all know where i am with my corsa at the moment.
I'll try to carry on where i left off in septemeber 2011 where i had blown the gearbox after just 100 mile on the road i'll try to keep it as short as possible too.
September 2011 - Removed the dead gearbox, fitted replacement f28 in november and used the car as a daily driver with no issues.
January 2012 - Bought a phase 1, mk3 Astra gsi in black as i'd always wanted one since i was a child and couldn't resist the one i had spotted for sale due to the fact they are getting extremely hard to find in black now, factory c20xe engine of course Corsa came off the roads untill the weather picked up a little and i could use it properly.
April 2012 - Sold the Astra gsi and bought a 04 plate bmw e46 m3 as my day to day car and got the corsa back out for weekend fun/abuse. No major change in spec from when I first got it on the road, think perhaps a forge actuator and a different cone filter maybe?
October 2012(my latest update) - with the bad weather setting in i decided to take the m3 off the road and use the corsa as my daily run about over the winter.
January 2013 - This is where the story gets sad while at work some kid in a saxo decided it would be a good idea to handbrake it round the corner into my street, in the snow, straight into the back of my car and drive off! This left me with a hit and run scenario on my pride and joy! i did eventually find out who it was and it went through his insurance leaving my corsa a cat C write off due to damaged rear bumper, rear passenger light, boot lid and creased boot floor.
In the end I got paid out and got to keep the corsa but i was so pissed off after all time and effort i'd put into the car i decided to keep it going as the engine hadn't missed a beat since day 1 and the car is so much fun to drive so I just pulled the crease out the floor, fitted a replacement boot and bumper and used it and abused it every chance I got like a let corsa should be used.
After passing another mot with flying colours in novemeber im currently using it as my run around while the bmw enjoys winter hibernation again, even though it is currently 3 different colours, still runs lovely and looks nice from the front at least, lmao

Just read this full thread from start to finish brilliant read, great to see you still have the car and found out who crashed into it.
Love how you have a choice of a turbo corsa or a BMW for winter both death traps in snow. look foreword to some more pictures!

cheers mate!
I find the corsa is surprisingly good in the snow compared to alot of cars tbh, light weight car with most the weight over the driven wheels = turbo snow plough fun! BMW is just lethal

Picture updates to follow on from the last ones i uploaded.
September 2011
F28 box issue, it seems that a few of rollers had decided to leave their bearing cage resulting in damage to pretty much everything in the box losing a few teeth on some of the gears and a 3rd of the diff. The hole created by all of this.
November 2011 back out and about.
