call them and ask to speak to a manager.
I had a problem when they wouldnt insure me on 1.6 almera as i wasnt 19 when i took out the policy with them even though i was 19 when i called them. i asked to speak to some one who can make decisions and not just read what it says on the screen. Sorted

My premium has shot up this year.

Paid £440 for the previous 12 months, absolute cheapest I could find this year was £610

I searched and searched tons of comparison sites, brokers and everything, still couldn't get any cheaper.

If the new car is worth more it makes perfect sense to me. Especially if you have been driving a while, the cars performance doesnt matter so much to insurers, they will be more bothered about it getting nicked than you crashing.
