Hi atm my mum has my old Corsa B, 1.0 12v box of poop. She really couldn't care less about cars tbh... favourite she ever had was a Golf, so she wants another. But I've explained they really aren't the best value for money, so I've been looking into a few alternatives. What would you choose out of my current top three and why?

My mate has a vRS and have heard nothing but praise about it... I've driven a Mini myself and must say I do love them, from someone coming from a bog standard Corsa I think she'd be really impressed with the class... always loved the little Lupos and she's said she not bothered about the size or anything

A golf isn't good value but the others are? Just let her get the golf. If she's not interested then what's the point in spending on a GTI or something daft.

I am sorta looking for cars I want yes as she doesn't know/care about cars and I'll also be named driver on it (although hardly ever using it) she said it's basically my choice as long as she likes the colour, gotta love women.

I like Golfs! I'd be very happy if she got one. However, after spending ages on Pistonheads most of the cars I've named here can be had with between 40-60k miles on the clock for decent money. The Golf? Well, it took me six pages before I found one with under 100k miles, and that was hardly an astonishing one, rolling in with 98k.

Feel free to post up some links... would love it to stay under £5k, but willing to hit nearer £7-8k if needed. If looking at the Golf it would be three door, the 1.8T or TDI model

Golfs are expensive, but they hold their money well too. Certainly no worse value than anything else.

Besides, my 06 TDI is worth about £7K on 50k - hardly bad value.

If you are talking about VFM, have you seen the price of mini servicing?

I wouldn't say the Fabia has character. Out of those 3 I'd go for the Mini, but in reality I don't think they are worth the money at all so tbh, I wouldn't go for any of the 3

Sounds like the first part of your problem is using pistonheads. Unless I was looking for something special I wouldn't even bother with that site. Get on autotrader...search is a million times better and cars are more reasonably priced IMO.

I just can't stand the Auto Trader website, it's fucking unusable still they changed it.

What are the Polo's like? I think they look damn smart tbh...

It looks different, but works just as well as before, so can't see the issue myself. The search is just sooo much better to find what you want.

I voted Skoda VRs.

Reason: I hate the new minis and think Lupo GTi are a bit too small.

Do you reckon they're similar in size to my R5? Can't be much smaller lol.
