On my m.o.t they "secured O/S/F outer cv gaitor, not sure if this has anything to do with it?

Aye, new CV joint needed probably. The CV boot is the rubber bit that clips on around the joint and holds the grease needed for it - if it's been split for ages it'll have been starved of the grease and probably be what's making the noise. If you put it on full lock to one side and drive forward does it make a clicking noise?

if it was loose then thats where the grease has come from, Id ask them if they re greased it before securing it, if the boot is secure now and not split and sounds ok then it should be ok, just clean it all up and keep an eye on it

No it doesn't as its the inner boot thats split.

Corsa C yeah? Quite common for the nearside inner one to split.

my escort had this, the boot had split and flung grease everywhere just like that, took some time to get wheel cleaned up.

can you tell if its coming from the inner or outer boot? and if any of them or the fixings each end of boot are new?

Might of popped off the larger end in the past and thats what they have fixed without cleaning up the grease it had flung out.

should be easy to spot if something is still wrong

Might clean it tomorrow then, but im so sure its been this messy since the m.o.t because that wheel has always been dirty and ive never cleaned the inside, I dont think its got worse

I doubt the grease from the inner one has got on your wheel to be honest.

Or about £15 for a GM one I think.

So the wheel covered in CV grease has nothing to do with the outer CV gaitor?

Erm well it just says his wheel is dirty, it might not be grease. From what I can see in the pic it looks like the outer CV boot is fine and clipped on and its just the inner boot that has split and seeing as thats near the gearbox I don't think the grease will have travelled from there.

I know as much as you which is pretty much fuck all but I'm assuming the guy knows the difference between dirt and grease. The fact that the outer boot has fucked up and been repaired at some point means there's more chance that it's going to fuck up again.

Not really but yeah I've never fitted a clip or a CV boot before so yeah I don't know much on the matter. Sorry for just guessing.
