Insurance groups make little to no difference to insurance prices.

As this thread shows, the insurance group is largely irrelevant in the random number generator the insurance companies use.

A high insurance group car can cost less to insure than a low one, same goes for engine sizes.

When I've played about with quotes before postcode has been the main factor, and again, not always in the way you would expect it to be, areas that I would class as 'better' sometimes cost more.

see i think thats not quite true though. as a 10grand group 5 car will be cheaper to insure than a 10 grand group 20 car. even though the lower group car is newer.

im not playing about with post codes or anything like that. im using my own postcode and correct details. it does change the price quite a lot.

i dont understand the groups before you moan about that etc. im saying for example an old 10 grand impreza vs a brand new car for 10 grand with a lower insurance group.

Impreza's are always at the more expensive end, some cars will follow the trend, others don't.

Always worth getting a quote on that exact car though before basing assumptions on insurance group or engine size.

When i had my XE Corsa i was insured through flux.I sold the car and bought a 1.3 Fiesta runner so called them up to change the vehicle for the time being. She ran the car and reg through the system etc and came back and told me the price was still the same. Was like WTF.

She then explained that the company who was insuring the Corsa, was a specialist who deal with modified cars and not standard like the fiesta was so couldnt offer me a good price.

ive got a 2.5 v6 170bhp 2002 mondeo, and my insurance wouldnt insure me on a 1.8 120bhp 2008 reg vectra. my insurance group is now a group 30!!

insurance is a fuckin joke imo!!!

I don't think the insurance groups have made any difference tbh, comes back to the exact car instead of what group it is now.

Renewal quotes are always a joke, that's always happened, did you not say you ended up getting it cheaper anyway?

The general groupage is up to 20
insurance companies have their own groups sometimes can be anything from 20 to 60 that i've seen.
