fuck that. ive popped a std size tyre off a std rim doing hand brake turns when i was a youth. dangerous.

I have run tiny tyres for years and have never had a problem. They fit much tighter on the wheel to. No give in the tyre wall in other words. 225/24/18 is the standard size for a MK4 on a 8x18. I run them on a 10x18 and a 215/40 on a 9x18 up front. But it has to be said some people just go to far. A 195/40 on a 9x16 is pretty standard these days but i wouldnt put it on a 9.5.

I've got a 235/40/18 on a 9.5J and it has stretch.

195 is just bloody stupid. Looking at that pic it has deformed the sidewall ( I know as I've had 195/40/16 T1-Rs). The plys inside the tyre will be snapping like that.

225/40/18 on a 9.5J is considered the lowest to go to maintain safety.
