Well you can only take my word for it, i was doing 60mph motorway journey following an asda lorry driving from chichester to winchester.
That was my mpg at 38 miles in 6th at about 1800-1900rpm.
If i reset my mpg coasting it goes well over 100.

After travelling back from Swansea
Tank was full so 219 miles travelled and 500+ left

Trip to Sheffield and back in my VR approx 300 miles averaged 33ish with some fun and traffic too.

my mate sold his golf vr as he always moaned that he struggled to get 18mpg
am sure he drove flat out everywhere

I know but surely it will use fuel as its still turning the engine over. Or try what a kid done and turn the ignition off at 40mph only to find he had no brakes or steering..... what a knob.

some modern engines cut fule supply if coasting in gear as momentum will turn the engine over

nope none at all the engine is kept going by the wheels turning it through the crank etc

True, this is why it's more economical to coast in gear rather than stick it in neutral.

Hmmm never knew that, i know about the stop start things on new cars but always thought it used a little bit like being sat on idle. I had to be so careful to get 69.1mpg though, almost painfull. Slowly lose speed up gradients and gain it again coming back down
