I currently own a corsa Gsi with a x16xe. The shell is rotten so i am buying a 1 litre corsa to put the running gear in. But do i do this or buy a redtop engine and fit that? Bareing in mind i have every thing to fit the Gsi lump and have to buy everything for the redtop.... Wouldn't it be cheaper to fit the Gsi and tune it???

Power per ££ I reckon the XE would be cheaper...

I thought that but then added this up
fitting kit 300
engine 500 - 600
service 100 - 150
so a grand give or take but a grand on a x16xe could be quite fast.

£600 for a XE?
Think how much it would cost to get a X16 to 150bhp...

I'd go for the 1.6 nice and light up front, with a few tweaks you won't be far off 20xe power, but won't have the added weight

Plus extra for isurance, and few 20XE's are 150bhp tbh.

Last time I bought a gasket set from Autovaux it was about £500 with belts and stuff. Also you know your engine. Bigger brakes, higher poundage springs.

I know, but 140bhp out of 1.6 and it would go like red top

I've had a 1.6 with powerbox, a 1.6 with sbd throttle bodies (nova) and two c20xe converted corsa's.
The 2.0 wins everytime for me. sell the 1.6 to recoup some of the conversion costs and you can pick up a c20xe for £350-£400.

20xe for me.
Had 2 16xe's and both were pretty shit imo.
I bought a complete donor car when building my XE and made my cash back breaking the rest of it.
