its stupid on my evo it was cheaper to say it was park on the street than in the garage
and this one got me its cheaper not to have a tracker fitted

I think it's terrible.
Insurance has become a joke at the moment.
We've sold nigh on 2000 winter tyres this year, and fitted 70% of those.
I dont see any other reason for insurance companies to charge any extra other than money grabbing.

actually its not..
the reason the price is higher is because more people claim on insurance when they chip their doors or something falls on the car.
so statistically more claims are made from people who park their cars in the garage to parking on the drive or street.

whats to say the car came with winter tyres fitted when you buy it 2nd hand, and you don't know about them, would your insurance be void as you haven't declared yours tyres
never have i been asked about tyres when getting insurance. And i've got shitty budget ones on the escort i bought which seem really dangerous to me, but are legal tyres

Got to agree with Edd, whether you should technically or not you don't. When have your insurance company ever asked what make your tyres are anyway?
If I switched from a set of Nankangs to a set of Goodyears I'd be expecting it to come down then.

Shocking common sense would dictate any human being with an ounce of intelligence will realise Snow tyres are to facilitate driving in the snow?
Hate insurance companies I have actually moved twice to lower risk cars to actually pay more on my insurance!

So going by this you should technically have to tell your insurance if you vary from the original tyre spec that the car came from the factory with.

More fool people for telling the insurance about them, I wouldnt, I know technically you are meant to but as someone pointed out, you're meant to even if you have a different brand tyre from standard.
