Never thought i'd be asking this but.......

I've joined a gym. My new job is alot less active than my old one and i've put on about half a stone. i'm not exactly fat but carrying a bit more fat than normal.

Just looking to tone up and build a bit of muscle. If it goes okay I may go for a more ripped look but doubt it somehow.

Can anyone reccomend a supplement drink I could use? Or do I not need one?

So should I maybe avoid a supplement drink until I've dropped a few pounds?

Urm well body fortress is a toned down whey protein, work very well to repair muscle damage so you dont ache afterwards. Downside is it will make you fart alot
Before hand i use creatine powder to feed your muscles more amino acids so you can work out for longer just like drinking gritty water

Whey protein passes through your system if its not used so wont make you fat
Because im tall my muscles dont look anything special but i can out do most musclemeatheads at endurance which gets them mega pissed when they try matching me on weight equipment (not free weights)

well if you want to lose weight it boils down to using more calories than you consume, its as simple as that.

if you want to increase mucle size (not very effiecient if you are looking to lose weight at the same time mind) a simple whey protein shake straight after a workout will do fine, just get some off myprotein.com

drop your cals and the weight will come off

no such thing as toning up you either lose weight so the mucle underneath shows more or increase mucle size

its quite hard to gain mucle and lose weight at the same time although not impossble, thats why most seasoned gym goers tend to bulk (eat a lot of cals to increase mucle size but put on a bit of fat at the same time) and then cut hard (restrict cals to lose the weight) around beach season.

list 4 days a week, cardio for 45 mins 4+ a week and eat less than your maintence cals whilst eating enough protein

They do a decent diet option though

there's a difference between losing weight and losing fat.

This.

Personally. Just have a couple of scoops of whey protien after.

All this other stuff is a load of wank ignore it all imo. Nothing is better than eating properly.

Rule of thumb is...

2000cal intake for loosing weight
2500cal RDA for a male over 20
3000cal Gaining weight/muscle

Yeah sorry. I'm not bothered about my actual weight. I just need to lose a bit of flab.

Also my diet is pretty healthy, I'm just less active than I was at work hence a bit of flab here and there.

You want carbs too immediately after IMO for optmum glycogen replenishment. Whey with something like dextrose / maltodextrin is fine. Then a decent meal 90 mins after.

I've got some Promax Diet, and yes it's good, but £33 for 20 servings is expensive

Not worth spending £99 a month just to lose some weight really, I'm looking at some MyProtein stuff next, cheaper and more in a bag

Synergy will make him put on mass though which he doesn't want hence why I put it.

To lose weight he needs needs a balanced diet of carbs protien and good fats and a shit load of hard cardio training. Simple.

The problem is your body will find it hard to take and the right supplements will soften the blow to help you recuperate.
