Was discussing this with a mate yesterday afternoon, as he has been looking into getting a vxr, but they are still quite £££.
I suggested an Sri 170 or 200? I have been told the 200bhp is the same as a vxr just with a different turbo and map, the 170 has a weaker map than the 200. I really like the navy sri's and they can be picked up at a very reasonable price. Surley 170hp one with vxr turbo-map (injectors/afm? Isn't that what u need on the gsi engine aswell?) exhaust, you have a stage 1 vxr basically?
I am sure this sounds too good to be true, as other people would surely done it?

Think you can possibly get the 170 to 200 but I wouldn't go any further, VXR engine is different.

170 is a Z20LEL
200 is a Z20LER
240 is a Z20LEH
L = Low Output
R = Increased Output
H = High Output
Pretty sure compression ratio's are different, i.e pistons etc.

170-200 map to about 235bhp/245lbft on just a map stage one
vxr has different turbo, and internals but basicaly. is the same as the z20let
170bhp is z20lel
200bhp is z20ler
put a vxr turbo, injectors afm, exhaust and fmic intercooler see 290-300bhp

That's pretty good! I thought it would have different internala than a vxr too, mainly because I would have thought a few people would have done it by now
