Does anyone know the legality of driving a car on uk roads while wearing a crash helmet?

Obviously on some cars like a Caterham/Ariel Atom then it makes a lot of sense, but is it legal to drive your average car with a helmet?

Obviously i'm not talking about a bicycle helmet. More like a full face helmet motorcyclists wear. Or would it have to be an open face helmet like this?

I've driven on the road with a helmet on in my old Corsa, can't see why it'd be illegal although can't see why you'd want to. Would possibly get the police interested if they noticed you though

No, I wasn't actually gonna do it

Although If I had white overalls and a white helmet i'd definitely be up for doing that for a laugh

I was watching a Horizon program about surviving car crashes on BBC2 and it got me and my dad thinking. I said I wonder if they'll ever make helmets compulsory like they did with seat belts.
