I'm 19 and i've been thinking about doing one as well.. but dropping down by £700 a month in wages is going to be a killer with a car to run

Is it being a car mechanic your looking for or anything mechanical?
Try OPITO for a Modern Apprenticeship in the oil and gas industry
2 years at College, accomodation paid for and on an allowance then 1st year offshore is 16k and second year is 20k and after your time served your looking at wages starting at 47k
Thats what I did

I did one with a flat to pay for, living costs and a car to run - you adjust your lifestyle to suit, because provided you put the effort in, the results are worth it IMO.
From my own experience anyway

an apprenticeships good to have because personally i dont think college teaches you enough whereas in work your learning it all hands on , the wagers are super dog shit but i supose it will all pay off in the end if its something you can see yourself doing in life go for it

Just because u know how to take an engine apart doesn't mean u know how it works.

But in the same sense theres no point in knowing it all in theory but not in practice. Known plenty of supposed mechanics straight from college etc.

i know plenty of qualified mechanics who started on an apprentisceship who know pretty much fuck all about cars.
the ones wo say its shit are the ones who dont really have a proper interest in cars and just did mechanics for something to do

i was an apprentice years ago, got to my level 2 and moved to better garage and had to quit college. doing day release with one day at college per week is where its at... £100 a week is bloody hard to manage on though. If its what you really want to do then go for it. I know a few mechanics that never went to college that run rings around level 3 mechanics

The minimum wage for apprenticeships is £2.50 an hour, and most are that
