My clio is officially fucked, so a new car is required for work.

Seen this locally:

http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?134513-Mg.zs-diesel

I know how badly put together these things are on the inside, my dad had two MGs

However, how are these TD engines? Ive heard they are BMW buillt?

And seeing as there is no price on the ad, what sort of cash should I be offering?

Any time I've heard any MG of that ers in diesel it has sounded like a proper old diesel engine.

I'd be looking at 1.7DTi Astra's or Corsa's if I was you.

The TD engines are really strong. My dad had one and it went forever.....well until he sold it! .

I was going to get one for the fact its a diesel. I still like the mg range wether or not they get branded for HGF.

EDIT: Cash wise, I'd be looking at most £1300 for a 52 plate mate, that should have tax and mot for that price aswell

the ZR and ZS both run the L series rover engine, it will be 101bhp or 115bhp depending on year and spec of the car.

the ZT and ZT-T CDTI were the bmw lumps, running 135bhp.

the L series is a fantastic engine, if you get the 115bhp lump you can put SDI injectors in from the older L series engines (sdi;s, either rover 200 or 400) for an instant hike in BHP, on a 115 engine with SDI injectors you can expect about 130bhp, couple that do a decat and a bit of inlet porting you will be pissing off the big boys in their golf GT TDI 150's.

build wise the insides can be a bit crappy, and rattly, but its one of the best diesel engines around and if serviced correctly will run on for ever

yes any car can suffer from HGF but its very uncommon on the dervs, you would have to empty the coolant out and drive it like a tit to kill it.
