Most people gave up driving for fun some time ago, most people drive because they have too.
I live in the sticks and if the government want to keep recieving the large amount of tax I pay I have to drive.
I wish they would fuck of targeting drivers who have no option but to pay.
Tax something else to shit where people have the option to buy it or not such as fast food etc

It depends, if they halved the tax on fuel I'd gladly pay 100% tax on fast food, double what we currently pay on booze and fags etc anything we choose to buy

haha, don't joke mate... If it hits £2 nothing will happen.
Unfortunately we (our country) would just continue to go on with our daily lives, while moaning a bit more... unfortunately we're dependant on petrol.
I've filled up my car a few times recently near the £1.45 litre mark (when using expensive service stations and 99 octane) - it sucks, but we have no choice.
If this was america (who pay about $2 a gallon btw, ~ 35-40p a litre) we would take drastic action if it went up any higher, but ultimately the UK is powerless and our government are trying to scrape money back anyway they can.

I mean that haulage companies etc will end up in the hands of administrators. We'll see increase in the cost of food at the supermarkets because the companies themselves will be trying to recoup some of the additional cost of shipping stuff. All this will mean the average cost of living will rise even more.

Now we await Paul_J's presentation as to why nothing will happen.

noone can argue about the cost of the curde oil that is the same where ever. However we can question why us as brits pay so much for it at the pump compared to other countries that buy the same crude oil at the same prices.
Also, why when we pay such high amounts in tax for it, are our roads in such shocking states
because the tax revenune for oil does not go into the transport system
thats what road tax is for
theres no such thing as road tax though. it's called vehicle excise duty. another cunting loophole for the government.

thing is the government can only claw back money from motorists as mentioned because we depend on it, but we don't depend on fast food :/
too easy a target, we need to protest, properly Egypt style

In fact I might make a post now to say petrol could reach £5/litre, just so I can quote it in 2016.
Why would you do that smart arse?
Because it's going to happen, same as 10p crisps now cost 25p, same as a pint is nearly £4 despite being £1.60 when I started drinking.
Its inflation, it's going to happen, compounded by a lack of supply and a lack of protest, look forward to it.
No amount of headline grabbing OMFG look at the £2 barrier being broken is going to stop it.
The only real reason it took so long to pass £1 was because the signs were not configured for that many digits. No such issue remains.
This is true. I don't think people realise how much has changed in 10 years, on 1st October 2000 the minimum wage was £3.70, it's now £5.93. People are no more poor

Local shell in leven says 128.9 for petrol but before you start to fill it has 128.0 on the digi screen. Been like that for a few days now.

See the thing is people say "its £1.33" around here, bargain!
it's like we've been brainwashed thats a good price, when a few years back when it went to 90p we had uproar and protests... now £1.33p is acceptable..

There are 2 petrol stations within half a mile of each other near me, one is a Morestyle one where it's 136.9p and the other is a shell one where it's 128.9. It's only a matter of time until the Morestyle one goes out of business because I never see anyone there and they're queuing out the door for the Shell garage
