Are lenses from film camera's different to DSLR's?

My dad has a few from his old film SLR and I was wondering (if there is an adaptor available) if they would go on a DSLR alright?

depends on afew things, what camera were they made for and which camera are you wanting to put them on?

Yep, depends. A lot of canon lenses can be incompatible as the shutter in the camera body hits the mount inside the lens.
