am i correct in saying thaty the 1.4 16v and the 1.6 16v the same engine just bored out more?

No.
1.4 has a shorter stroke (Crank and Pistons are different, Rods are identical between 1.4 and 1.6), and a smaller bore than the 1.6.
The heads are identical (except for c16xe/x16xel).

Also, I really suggest you buy a haynes manual, read it cover to cover and remember every little number or anything, You could learn so much, insted of asking all the frigging time.
