I paid £1,200 for my 12v and told the insurance that was the value and only paid £600 for the first year. Having said that, I was 25 at the time, probably why it was so low.

I had a 1.2 8v when I was 17, 2 months later a 1.6 sport when I was still 17.

I've never paid over a grand for insurance

Your jokeing right?
I don't think he is and I agree with him, most ppls grab a shitter for a few hundred as their first car.
I'm not joking in the slightest, my car was the 12v which cost £1000 (which was my maximum budget), a mate's was a mk3 Fiesta 1.3 and another mate's was one of those old Polos that looks like a hearse. Now we all have Corsa SRi, Astra coupe and Golf mk5 respectively. Buying something cheap to run about in for the first year or two is the best way to do it if you ask me. If you buy an expensive first car then your insurance will be stupid - all the while you could have saved yourself a packet by picking up something cheaper.

Plus, if you have a prang, you won't be so bothered about it if its a shitter. If you've just spent £3k on it, you'd be pissed!
