Generally speaking, how old does a car have to be to get it under classic car insurance?

Also why is classic insurance cheaper? Limited mileage?

Has anyone had experience with an import car on classic insurance?

It's actually more lik 15 years, but your have to be over 25, limited milage and normally garaged.

depends on the policy and if they deem it to be a true classic. proper minter of a 205 gti could be seen to be a classic, but then theyre not going to call a rusty £500 example a classic even if its the same age etc

i would second this.

I drive (as a second car) a 1985 Vauxhall Nova 1.0 and have been told by more than one person that i should consider "classic car" insurance. A friend has three orginal Mini's in various stages of work (although one is working, the other two less so!) and he told me that is how he would insure the Nova if he was me.

No offence Pete but I wouldn't personally classify that particular Nova as a classic

my viva is on a classic policy and im under 25. Only about £125 a year fully comp with full european breakdown cover. Im limited to around 3000 miles but thats not bad.

My old E30 was also on a classic policy which was 1990.

Reason Im asking is because Im looking at mk2 MR2's. If insurance is reasonable I will get a turbo, and a few people mentioned to me to look into classic car insurance for one. Although from a quick look around I think I may find it hard to find a classic policy as Im 20, 3 years driving, 2NCB

HIC won't do named drivers under 25, but other than that, I found them really helpful, give them a ring

me and my mate are paying £370 on our mk1 golf project, i'm 25 and he's 23, 3000 miles a year, all modifications declaired, agreed value etc.

my mk2 is still only £480 even with the 2.0 16v conversion, £5k agreed value, like for like on mods, thought that was pretty good to be honest
