I've been with sky for years now, over the past 2-3 months our internet speed has plummeted... speedtests show our download speed to be at 0.3mbps, laughable I know.

So I took the plunge last week and called Sky, they had me doing all sorts and when this didn't rectify the problem, said that they could "boost" my speed, but because of where I am (the MIDDLE of Birmingham ) I am too far to receive a decent speed, and to expect about 1-2mb after this boost, despite previously getting speeds of around 8-10mb.

Anyhow, this "boost" came into effect shortly after, and gave me speeds of about 7mb for 3-4 days, then a few days ago that had dropped down to 1mb, and today we're back to square one with our prehistoric broadband speed of 0.3mb.

Does anybody know what is going on? how to fix it? and if I can get away with murdering the brainless wuckfits at sky?

If you are in the middle of Brum surely there should be some LLU providers of traditional copper broadband, and if not you should have access to Virgin cable broadband?

what other devices are plugged into your phone lines?

Do you have any crappy phone extension cables running around the house?

nothing, just the sky and the modem, it has been that way for over 3 years with no problem just the last few months.

Sky are bamboozled, considering changing provider, will this solve the problem? or will I just be stuck with a barely usable net speed?

Pick up the phone (a corded one not cordless) and press a button.

Do you hear any crackling or other noise on the line?
