With the AV voting system you have a first and second choice, whereas the current system you only vote for whom you want in - unless you are voting with tact.

It's fairly straight-forward, the Austrailians use this method, but many complain that they'd prefer it our way.

The main gripe is that those who vote Conservative will take LibDem as second choice, and Labour voters will also vote the Libs as a second choice; meaning that the party nobody really wants in could possibly win...

Hope that makes better sense.
excellent explanation

I actually thought AV was a decent idea

didn't vote though, the missus threw away the polling cards

My understanding of it....

The Tories and Labour didn't want AV... why? Because it would of let other groups have a bit more power.

People are basically going to be wasting their vote again by voting anything other than Labour, Tories, (possibly Lib Dem) the smaller parties are back to being basically pointless, if AV was in, they might of been able to gain a tiny bit of influence on things.

However, I do agree that people would just be voting other parties because they didn't want 1 party to win, instead of voting for someone to win

what you will get is labour voters picking labour and lib dems, and conservatives picking conservatives and lib dems, then libs dems picking lib dems and some unheard of shitcunt and you end up with a party noone wants in power

I can understand that, hence why Lib Dems were the ones who wanted AV in the first place

Just if you vote for anyone other than those three it's a wasted vote essentially at the moment, think AV would of allowed smaller parties to get in on the act.

Although apparently BNP have 2 seats in Derby after last night...

I'm quite pleased the SNP has taken control, fingers crossed they'll push for full independence now. Somehow don't think there is enough oil in the North Sea to pay for their free prescriptions, university tuition and benefit system.

I'd love to see Scotland try and deny us the right to the oil

I would actually join up and fight so I got the chance to shoot at Hammer while he runs around in a kilt with his tricolor wrapped around his head.

We'd deny Scotland the right to mars bars if they denied us oil. Theyd be dead in a week.
