Hey all,

As you may know, me and my friend (ex CS member) Adrian, have built and entered an integra type R race car into the MSV trophy series this year.

This is a race series which is mainly aimed to encourage people to get into motorsport, generally with two driver teams competing in a 45 minute race with pitstop. The classes are worked out on power to weight and generally everything else is free to be changed. A lot of the teams have 1 novice driver and 1 pro driver who has a lot of experience. In our team - we are both complete rookies, only with track day experience previously.

Our first race was this weekend at Cadwell Park, slightly damp. A lot of the other drivers had done the race the day before (we couldn't afford to do both), so were on the pace for the sunday!

After having a bad qualifying and being last in class and 12th overall on the grid (out of 21 cars), we thought there was no chance of any sort of result - however we decided just finishing (not crashing) would be a result and cracked on!

In the race, we managed to gain a few places, then had a bit of luck with our pitstop and then watched one of the class leaders crash his porsche. Adrian then did a storming second half getting some amazing lap times and pulling away from cars in the above class.

When we crossed the line initially we thought we had finished 3rd in class! Which we would've been about.

Then when we picked up the timing sheet we noticed it said 2nd in class! (one of the cars was actually a lap behind after they fluffed up their pit stop).

However, when they called us up onto the podium, we had the top spot ... it turns out the leader got a 30 second penalty for not pitting long enough (there's a minimum time for the pitstop required).

For the first race ever to finish 1st in class and 5th overall (from 12th) was amazing

not bad for a car built on a budget, built on my parents driveway

There's a video of the race here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26gh7Cv9ac4

Although unfortunately the camera falls down before we really started making the places (unfortunately no footage of Adrian kicking ass either).

tl;dr (summary) - we won our class in our first race.

We're a really strong team, both drivers are quick and consistent.

We just need to perhaps sort a few things on the car, e.g. valve stem seals (the car blows a lot of oil out), brakes (we warp our standard discs), weight (I think we're heavier than we need) and tyres / wheels... we have quite narrow wheels at the moment and the regs allow us to run at least another inch wider than standard - currently the car likes to 4 wheel drift when pushed hard.

Well done Paul and Adrian!!! Watched the video, that White Clio was giving some good defending on some of the straights. Was obvious you had more straight line speed and acceleration too then it. Kudo's for winning. Would love to do this kind of racing in the future. What class of racing lisence you have to have? Cos I know there's different classes from an old college mate who does MR2 racing.
