looking at one tomorrow for the mrs, its a black 1.7 with 80 odd thousand miles and tax+test until january and ive been offered it for the grand sum of £300. insurance is a grand, but then a 1.0 micra is 890 so it not too bad in comparison.

what common stuff do i need to look for? im not expecting anything immaculate but as long as its mechanically sound it will do her as a runabout (its her first car so theres no point in getting anything expensive)

Engine on it's own will go for £150ish, with the bits to convert a Fiesta you can at least double that.

Gear knob, silver dash trim, wheels and you're already up on that money.

Major things are corrosion, arches I would guess will be shot although no biggie as it's just cosmetic unless it's very bad. They'll be advisories on the previous test normally - brake pipes, sills, seat mounts on the floor.

If you have the previous certs you'll get a clue for it. Either way that is a cheap car.

Engines are good, as long as oil level is maintained

Cylinder liners and VCT.

Neither of which I would worry about if they're not currently apparent. The car is worth that much in bits even without the engine.

clutch release bearing has gone on mine, makes a funny noise when changing gear. not sure if it's a common problem on puma's.

also waterpump is on it's way out, but coud happen to any car i suppose.
