Hi guys, i recently bought a 1.4 16v corsa with the intention of going to track days with it.
Whilst i was on holiday a few weeks ago some badger kindly decided they wanted to break into it by pulling the top of the door out.
Lucky the car has an alarm so that scared them off (nothing to take from the car so i presume they were after the car itself).
My question is though, would you reccomend getting a turbo for the current engine or doing an engine swap?
I was thinking about a redtop but i dont want to compromise the handling by having all the weight over the wheels.
What gains would i get if i was to turbo and does anyone know rough prices?
Also is there likely to be reliability issues?

Thanks for any help
Jordan

Talking over a grand for a turbo conversion inc a mappable ecu, and your still only get a max of around 200bhp and that is without changing the internals, change the internals for another huge cost and you might get more power.

XE conversion is cheaper (Although fitting one without a rebuild may lead to trouble), and the weight isn't that bad.

Turbo 16v has been done a hell of a lot, Courtenay Sport used to do (and maybe still do?) conversions.

Why don't you fit a power box? Nice easy mod, which won't turn into a ball ache, with your car being off the road for ages.

If we are suggesting stuff, powerbox, do the cams while doing the cambelt and that will put it over 100bhp, Or fit a 1.6 and the above stuff and get 130bhp or more.

if its a track car then stick with a small block, it does make a big difference, and even if you do all the suspension etc the small block will always handle better, which is where the fun is at on a track day imo

Thanks for the help. Will look into Power box and cams I was thinking that if i kept the x14xe in then i wont compromise handling. Is the x16xe conversion really worth it?

If your going to go down the route of cams, power box etc... then swapping out the x14 for the x16 will be worth it as the above additions will see better gains on the latter.
