anyone got any top tips on an easy way to remove residual gasket sealant on a flange? taking me ages to go around and pick it off with a knife

Use a solvent cleaner to soften it then get a real fine scraper and get scraping.
You can buy plastic scrapers with stanley blades that sit flat in them. They're good too.

Too late, but you can get a spray that takes it off.

But make sure you wear gloves, it rips the shit out of your hands.
